At Handfuls of Purpose, we  provide compassionate support and essential resources to individuals and families facing not only homelessness, but also food and clothing insecurity, in our growing community in Frederick, Maryland. We believe that every person deserves access to basic needs and a pathway to a better future. Our comprehensive outreach services are designed to address immediate needs and foster long-term stability. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Food Assistance

Nutrition is a cornerstone of our services. We partner with churches, other nonprofit organizations, and local businesses, farms, and citizens to provide healthy food and clean drinking water. In addition to serving those in the unsheltered camps, our team members also deliver fresh groceries and prepared meals to our neighbors in subsidized housing, as well as those “living” in local motels. These neighbors include senior citizens, those with major health issues, and also families with small children; several of whom often need our financial assistance to pay for their rooms.

Proper clothing and hygiene are vital for maintaining health and self-esteem. We distribute essential clothing items, including warm coats, shoes, and seasonal wear. Additionally, our hygiene kits include items such as cleansing wipes, deodorant, toothbrushes/toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products, ensuring that individuals can maintain personal cleanliness and dignity.

Our staff & volunteer teams travel throughout the community to ensure that those suffering with food insecurity have access to nutritious meals and groceries. At each visit we deliver meat/meat substitute, vegetable(s), fruit, bread, non-perishable item(s), and appropriate foods to meet diverse dietary needs.
